I often get calls asking me to deal with rats in lofts and wall cavities. It amazes me that often the job and problem has been looked at by numerous other pest controllers.
Sometimes the issues may have been ongoing for years! Rats need to feed and drink regularly, and rats that are present in walls etc must be coming and going.
When I look round a property and find no obvious entry and exit point then its almost guaranteed that the issue is a sewer problem. In fact when I’m tasked with dealing with rats in lofts then my first thought is SEWERS!
Often I am told that the sewers have been checked and there is no faults. But yet there are huge numbers of rats in the walls and its a consistent problem. These rats are not climbing drain pipes, running along roofs of getting into the loft by parachute!!
There is a sewer issue and the camera crew have missed it. Often camera teams are looking for a large hole or collapse when in fact the hole can be tiny, it can be a small crack or even a joint that is not sitting flush.
The rats are then leaving the sewer system and entering via a hole in the footings, they then go up the cavity and enter the loft. These rats are not looking for food, they eat and drink in the sewer system, they are looking for insulation as that is the only thing they cannot source in the sewers.
