The public in the North West seem to have had a really quiet time with the wasps this summer! We started June really busy thinking it would be a bumper wasp year, but as fast as they arrived they disappeared! We actually finished the 2022 wasp season with our lowest number of wasp nest treatments ever. I sure all our customers will be happy abut that but we rather enjoy the challenges of treating wasps!
We have recently started taking on a number of new commercial pest control contracts in Wigan and Leigh. We have always done pest control around Wigan but a re organising of how we cover the area has allowed a little bit more capacity. We now visit numerous Pharmaceutical companies, haulage and storage companies and care homes in Wigan and the surrounding areas.
Pest wise we have found rodent issues fairly stable in the area. This is a bit different to Bolton , Preston and Blackburn where rat issues especially have increased massively. Ant calls fell away this year, like the wasps it was a very quiet summer. Ant treatments in Wigan must of been down 50% on last year.
Mice and mouse control in Wigan and Leigh has proved as difficult as many other places. Once upon a time a call for mice in Wigan would of been a standard thing to deal with. These days I dread a call for an odd mouse seen in a home. They seem to be developing a reluctance to go on traps and a reluctance to eat mouse poison. Mouse bait avoidance is something that most pest controllers are coming across, even if they don’t want to admit. Perhaps its professional pride that stops pest controllers admitting to struggling with the odd mouse call. We now routinely place 3 different types of baits to see which they prefare. We also have ultra violet mouse tracking dust and mouse contact gels/foams at our disposal.
